Colder than Alaska?!!

Yes, as of right now it is 29 degrees warmer in Anchorage and 15 degrees warmer outside in Fairbanks than the -10 degrees it is here on the WI lake shore. Its even colder inland. Yes, there were Troops camping in this weather this weekend. I camped in weather this cold once as a Scout and was fine but I have no intention of repeating the experience. From the forecast I just read it's supposed to warm up a bit in the later half of the week but still be in the teens. I'm glad I've got a good place to live and quality winter gear when it gets this cold. I know that I will be wearing lightweight longjohns under my suit pants the next two days.

The Super Bowl was not that super. The Colts victory was nice as I don't like Chicago at all, but I expected a bit more out of them. It would have been a much more interesting game if "Good Rex" had played but that was not to be. As far as the commercials go they were funny to a point but don't seem as good anymore as they used to be. My favorites were the "paper, rock, scissors...I threw paper...I threw a rock" Bud Light commercial and the Careerbuilder spots.

I went to my first Blue and Gold banquet of the year today in Kiel. It was pretty typical but worth mentioning for the comment of one kid. A Tiger Cub was up as a volunteer in the magician act that was the entertainment and was asked what his favorite animal was. Without hesitation "turkey vulture" was his answer. Hilarious. I asked his dad afterwards and he confirmed this to be the case. I'm not sure what that says but it was funny.

A last comment for this posting of random comments is my "What the..." moment of the week. When I turn off the car and then when I open the door the lights usually stay on for 20 seconds before fading off. Rather out of the blue they stopped doing this earlier this past week. Being who I am I looked all over the instrument panel and couldn't find a switch that I may have flipped. I then consulted the manual. No joy there either so I stopped by the dealership and a mechanic came out to the car to take a look. There is a switch to control this, but it isn't anywhere that I would have looked such as on the instrument panel with the other lighting controls. No, it's on the dome light fixture in the back seat. What sense does that make? I would feel really dumb but the mechanic didn't know it was there either until he leaned back to look to see if the light was on and noticed the switch. How I moved the switch I don't know, but it's better now.

Later for now.
