Proud of My Sibs and Other Tales

I don't take the time to talk to my siblings much, especially my brother, since I moved to WI. Lately I've had cause to be proud of both.

My brother, who is a mix in personality between my sister and I and is the closest to a "normal" teenager of the three of us, has tentatively made a decision for his future. He will turn 17 this May and intends to sign delayed enlistment paperwork for the Air Force to become a military policeman or sky cop as my folks would call it. Some might argue that I should be afraid of where he might be sent, but I'm glad that he is making the decision to do what, in a slightly different way, I wanted to do to serve our country. If he gets called overseas so be it. I think it's a good move for his future whether he stays in or not after his term of enlistment.

My sister has also ended up in a role I recognize, but would have never really guessed. She is the newest District Executive for the Shiawassee District of the Tall Pine Council out of Flint, MI. She originally interviewed in our home council, but it was for the better that she was not selected there. Her assignment in TPC brings her to a very rural district and has her working for three guys I actually know pretty well, one being my first boss in this council who is there now as Scout Executive and her direct supervisor being a guy I know from training. It'll be interesting to see her experiences there and how it compares to my own.

The unofficial branch of my family, the OA guys, came out on film today. Yes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back on the big screen. It's funny that of the group I was at one time referred to as Master Splinter and as I watched the movie this afternoon there were several conversations that Splinter has with the guys that I distinctly remember having at OA events. Brian and I did indeed go see it already and both thought it was well made with cool animation and a good story line. The only thing missing was the original theme music. Maybe they'll release a new Splinter toy that I can add to my office cast of characters that already includes many moose, Teddy Roosevelt, Optimus Prime and the Autobots and Scrat from Ice Age.

Outside of the above, its been typically busy, but the next week will be a little slower as Sheboygan County is on spring break so that will have a lot of people out of town making my life a little slower.

Until later.
